We at Annapolis Canoe and Kayak are knowledgeable, friendly, and ready to help you get the right equipment the first time so you can get the most out of the sport. Did we mention that we have a dock here so you can also demo?
Anyway, here are some staff bios, to help you get to know us better.
Dave Young originally opened the shop with Brad Reardon in 1990 as Springriver Annapolis. In 2007 Dave (along with business partners David Corddry and Bill Vickers) took over the location as owner/manager of Annapolis Canoe and Kayak.
Dave’s extensive knowledge of boats and paddling has helped hundreds of people find the boats and gear that make the most of their experience. Dave has become a great asset to the Annapolis/Eastport area.
“Selling products isn’t so much the daily goal as it is working with customers to educate and guide them in a direction that suits their wants and needs… we let the boats sell themselves.”
David J. Isbell
Dave Isbell has been sea kayaking since 1989. In 2002 he discovered the traditional Greenland paddle and shortly after started building traditional skin on frame kayaks from scratch and becoming a devoted practitioner of traditional Inuit kayaking skills.
Dave is a lifetime member and on the steering committee of the Chesapeake Paddlers Association, as well as an advisor to the board of QAJAQ USA.
In the summer of 2010 Dave was part of a two man, three week, unsupported kayaking expedition in the high Canadian Arctic, specifically 430 miles north of the Arctic Circle in Northern Baffin Island.
Lee is a big hearted, devoted paddler with a wealth of knowledge of boats and of our large inventory.
He is also the shop’s master griller. So if you are lucky or cunning enough to come by at the right time, you will get to have some great food when you shop or come paddling!
Ray has been an avid kayaker as well as close friend and customer here for well over a decade. A self-proclaimed “sloppy paddler,” most of us here can’t keep up with him… when he doesn’t want us to, that is… His gung-ho approach to everything he does also makes him the best gear tester we could ever have.
As an avid kayaker who is very passionate about his favorite athletic outlet, it’s not uncommon for Ray to invite a new kayaker to join him on an extended demo to see what the boat really does on open water. If you ever see someone breaking through the ice from our floating dock in the dead of winter, give him a wave and know that for Ray, there’s no better place to be.
The rest of our staff at Annapolis Canoe and Kayak have not written their bios yet. No paddling after work until these get done!
